Thursday 19th January – walks ***** Sunrise to sunset :) Felixstowe and woodbridge

After missing yesterday’s mega sunrise made even better by a hard frost and light airs it was the same again this morning so I got up at 7, cleared the frost off the van and headed down to the seafront. I was looking for the best vantage point to see to sun come up and ended up at the cliff top carpark down towards the golf course. I set up the camera on the slope behind the beach huts and got some nice shots of the sun as it came up with some roofs in to set off the pics. I then walked down to the beach and turned my camera inland to get the huts in the lovely early morning light including dog walkers and joggers:)
My hands were now freezing so I returned to warm up in the van deciding to head over to Levington to see if I could spot any deer but before I left I got a nice shot of the white frosty golf course with Martello tower!
I took the second turning into Levington coming out near the church but sadly no deer, turning right I parked up at Levington creek. This was out of this world with misty sunshine bathing the creek with the tide well out and the mud covered in a layer of ice, just stunning :) I walked to the River Orwell having a chat with a birdwatcher and a bait digger on the way. I should have gone home and got Mag to share this as it was a sight to behold, perhaps we can do it tomorrow? Then it was home at 10:30 for a late breakfast and discuss our plans to go away in our little campervan this coming weekend. Our plan was to go to France, perhaps ski in the volcanos near Clemont Ferrand before heading down to Tarifa with a little windsurfing on the way before returning for more skiing in our favourite little resorts around Geneva but the whole of France and Spain are unseasonably cold at the moment and snow has fallen on many beaches in Spain!!! On checking the weather it seems to be getting milder in a week so we have decided to go ahead with the trip:)
We had arranged to pick up our friend Mary from a dentist’s appointment in Martlesham so after some shopping and lunch we drove over to Martlesham Creek for a walk. It starts with a muddy section through the trees to the end of the creek with the path continuing to Kyson Point and the River Deben. With the water level still fairly low there were loads of waders and widgeons feeding, the best being the Godwits and Curlews with their extra long beaks searching deep in the deep for food:) We also spotted yet another Bearded Tit in the rushes, then at Kyson Point with loads of time we continued along the river path to Woodbridge with the lovely tide mill making fantastic reflections in the calm waters. We then turned left across the railway line to the park and back to the Point along a nice path we had never been on before chatting to a local couple who had been married for 53 years!
We made it back to the boat house at Kyson Pint just in time to see the sunset before returning back the way we had come as it was getting dark and turning really cold. We picked Mary up and returned to Felixstowe for a warming cuppa and light the fire – what a top day :)
